Alley vies for the 5th CD; Mannix grandstands

Just when we thought the GOP list of candidates was beginning to narrow Jeff Mapes is now reporting that yet one more Republican might enter the hypothetically crowded race to replace retiring Rep. Darlene Hooley. Pixelworks co-founder and Kulongoski Aide Allen Alley is now contemplating a bid for the seat.

His entrance into the race would likely frustrate most businessman Mike Erickson given Alley's deep pockets and connections throughout the state. Although, Alley's connections may be a little too close for some GOPers comfort given that he has donated considerable campaign cash to several Democrats over the years including $4000 to the Democratic National Committee back in September 2004. Should Alley run his first decision might be what party he truly associates with.

In the meantime, speculation continues to rise about a possible Kevin Mannix run for Hooley's seat. Pulling his support for the legislative response to his unfunded ballot measure calling for mandatory minimum sentencing for property crimes is alleged to be his informal congressional campaign announcement.
