The results are in: Oregon House Speaker and U.S Senate candidate Jeff Merkley (D-Portland) officially out raised U.S Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton) in the second quarter by approximately $70,000.
According to Smith campaign spokeswoman Lindsay Gilbride, Smith brought in $1.35 million between April 1 and June 30. Jeff Merkley raised $1.42 million during that time.
But before anyone in the Merkley camp decides to use that surplus to splurge on a bottle of champagne, the Democratic challenger still has a huge cash gap to overcome leading up to the November election.
According to Gilbride, the Smith campaign has $4.47 million cash on hand to draw on, while Merkley will have to make due with his $560,000.
