UPDATED: Krummel to vacate state House seat early

State Rep. Jerry Krummel (R-Wilsonville)State Rep. Jerry Krummel (R-Wilsonville)State Rep. Jerry Krummel (R-Wilsonville) is stepping down from his seat, effective August 1.

It will be up to the Republicans to replace Krummel represents District 26, and Nick Smith, spokesman for GOP house leader Bruce Hanna said that they will be backing the Republican nominee for the November election, Matt Wingard, to take his place.

“We are supporting Matt because he is the Republican nominee,” Smith said.

Wingard will be running against Jessica Adamson (D-Sherwood) in November, who says that the announcement will not affect her campaigning strategies.

"We're just really concerned about talking to voters and spending time with them," Adamson said. "It's going to be a hotly contested race, but I think that what they are most concerned about is where we will stand on November 4."

Krummel’s departure is only slightly earlier than expected. He announced this would be his final term last year, saying he wanted to return to teaching. Oregon Republicans will officially appoint Krummel’s replacement after he vacates office.

Clever ploy

Very clever of Krummel to depart early so Wingard or whoever wins the appointment will be able to campaign as an "incumbent", much the same as Sen Mark Hass is. The difference is Sen Hass will have already served over a year in office including the Feb Special Session, and the newly appointed HD26 Rep will have barely found his office in Salem by the time the election is held.
And Dem candidate Jessica Adamson is campaigning very actively with a strong group supporting her. Send her campaign a contribution today and help turn HD26 to the Blue side!

Clever ploy

As Washington County Democrats' House District 26 leader and the last candidate against Krummel, I've got a dog in this fight. If there's any scenario in which Democrats can propose Jessica Adamson as a nominee, I'd like to hear about it [LincolnDem at AOL dot com].

Likely nominees

The Rs will very likely propose Jeff Dyke along with Wingard. Who else is a likely suspect?

As Glen points out, Krummel's resignation is very likely an attempt at clever ploymanship. The bottom line is that Jessica Adamson will be the candidate against Wingard. The latter is about as mean and selfish a libertarian Republican as you can get -- mirroring his counterpart in the state Senate. So, Glen's right: send Jessica some significant money.
