Specifically, it was a garage door, thrown open to let the cool evening air into the converted warehouse space where the presumptive Republican presidential nominee will base his headquarters. A front office decorated with color photos of McCain and his wife, Cindy, serves as a lobby. McCain supporters drank sodas and munched on chips as they admired the photos. Other volunteers also got a sneak peak at a large back room with McCain yard signs neatly hung along one wall. Conference tables were lined up down the center of the room, and call sheets were being passed around. This is the room where phone calls will be made, envelopes will be licked and bumper stickers will be distributed.
And, as McCain's campaign staff hopes, it will be where Oregonians, who have thus far given Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) a comfortable lead in the polls, decide to throw their support behind the Republican presidential candidate.
"I wouldn't even try to guess how many people we have in the entire state working hard to get John McCain elected," campaign spokesman Rick Gorka said. "From the county chairs, down to the people knocking on doors and making phone calls, we have a lot of people and they all make a difference."
About 60 volunteers from as close as Oregon City and as far away as Allbany gathered for snacks after work. Several prominant Oregon Republicans were on hand to boost the energy of the volunteers.
"If you bring in 10 more people to volunteer, those 10 people that you bring in to volunteer need to go out and get 10 more people because we cannot do this without you," implored State Rep. Linda Flores (R-Clackamas).
According to Gorka, the gathering on Friday night was just the beginning in terms of how much support McCain has here. Gorka wouldn't comment on how many more offices would be opening, but he did confirm there will be more.
For now, enthusiasm for the GOP candidate spread through the newly opened headquarters. State Rep. Scott Brunn (R-West Linn) urged the volunteers to keep the faith. Republicans have challenges ahead, he reminded the volunteers, but their mission to give all seven of Oregon's electoral votes to McCain is doable.
"In 2000, it came down to about 2-3 votes per precinct," Brunn said. "So don't let anyone convince you that Oregon is not a swing state."
The latest speculation on who will be Oregon's next U.S. Attorney once President-Elect Barack Obama takes office is that several Oregon district attorneys are lining up behind Clatsop DA Josh ... >

McCain health care policy speaker for Corvallis
Dear McCain volunteer coordinator(s),
We plan to host a Presidential campaign health care discussion in Corvallis 7-9 PM on Tuesday October 7 at the Corvallis Public Library. We are seeking a speaker who could knowlegeably represent Sen. McCain's philosophy on health care issues that evening. Can you help us find such a person?

I wonder if McCain has yet figured out just what kind of "beauty contest" he offered up Cindy for. We all got a good laugh out of that one. (Film on rerun of Daily Show tonight and tomorrow.)
I also find it amusing that I have not yet seen a single McCain bumper sticker in Portland. Not just in the blue center, but in the eastern suburbs. Nothing. Maybe no one cares enough to send away for one?
It sure took them long enough to open the OC office. They are probably afraid to put one in SE Portland.
Sen John McCain - Difficult Decision
Was priviledged to see Sen. McCain with the Pastor last night. And his comment, regarding his most difficult decision was extremely moving indeed !
I'm a Canadian citizen, retired now, & living in BC., so of course, I'm unable to vote. However, first time any of us ever heard of Mr. Obama, was months ago, on CNN when Ms. Oprah introduced him, saying "HE IS THE ONE !" Well, my heart nearly stopped.......as it sounded like she was introducing our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ, making him the NEW ANTICHRIST ?!? I had to call my Uncle, just to confirm, & he felt the same.
I'm sure we're not the only 2 that felt that way up here either !!
Please extend to Sen McCain my best regards & wishes for a SUCCESSFUL future! While I wouldn't want that job, for anything in this world....If he feels he can handle it, then good for him!!! Go for it Sir !!!!!
Our prayers are & will be with you FOR SURE !
God Bless you ALL !!

McCain Can Ride In on G. Smith's Coat tails
It seems that Gordon Smith is polling pretty well. He runs ads that say that he and Obama work well together and think alike on a lot of things. (yeah, right) So McCain could take a page from Smith's book and say he works well with Obama, too and thinks like Obama does. Who knows? Oregonians might decide to lean McCain's way.
Sure seems to be a lot of gullible Oregonians eating this stuff up.
