Oleske previews new book on Republican economic claims

DENVER -- Jim Oleske, former communications director for Kate Brown when she was the Senate majority leader, was up bright and early Tuesday morning to distribute copies of his first book to Oregon delegates at the Democratic National Convention.

The book, entitled Yeah, Right: “The Economy is Strong” is Oleske’s attempt to show readers the contradiction between Republican talking points and economic reality. Oleske said that the intense focus on the economy this election cycle makes his book that much timelier.

"Sen. McCain’s comments last week are only the latest in a long line of statements revealing that the modern Republican Party either doesn’t understand or doesn’t care how deeply their trickle-down policies have damaged the American economy," Oleske said.

The book is a collection of statements taken from Republican leaders including McCain, President Bush, Karl Rove and others who said that their policies had made the economy stronger.

“We’ve got to come to a national consensus at Republican policy writ large has been bad for the country,” Oleske said. “By putting together statements, it’s intending to show how broad their denial has been.”
