Clinton delegate makes call for unity, thanks Obama delegates for allowing roll call vote

The morning after former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made a call for her supporters to unite the Democratic Party behind Barack Obama, Clinton delegate Rep. Sarah Gelser (D-Corvallis) thanked Obama delegates in advance for their understanding during the roll call Wednesday.

"Senator Clinton made me so proud to work for her and so proud to be a Democrat," Gelser said to the Oregon delegation as they ate breakfast. "On behalf of the Clinton delegation, I would like to thank everyone for being respectful of the process."

Clinton delegates will have the chance to vote for their former candidate on the floor of the convention. Even though some will cast a vote for Clinton, Obama delegates said they were impressed with Clinton's call for unity Tuesday, and looked forward to the Democratic Party going forward together.

"She was alright, but she lost," said Obama delegate Shirley Woods of Wilsonville. "I wish she could have been a better loser, but I'm just glad she's a Democrat and on our side."

Gelser also told delegates that by coming together, they could set the standard for the rest of the party as it moves forward under Obama's leadership.

"Oregon has always been at the front, and certainly we will be united together," Gelser said.
