DENVER--State Sen. Bruce Starr (R-Hillsboro) believes that with McCain choosing Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) as his running mate, the first woman vice-president will be a member of the GOP.
“I think it’s great that the first woman with a 1600 Pennsylvania address will be a Republican,” Starr said. “I’m very excited about it; I think it’s a terrific choice.”
Starr also thought that Palin, who grew up in neighboring Idaho, would play well with independent minded Oregonians.
“McCain is someone who has bucked his own party, and Governor Palin did the same thing in Alaska; bucking the establishment and tackling reform,” Starr said. “She’s also an outdoors woman; she hunts, she fishes. I think she’ll appeal to the northwest.”
Starr will serve as an Oregon delegate at the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis Sept. 1-4, and get to cast his vote for both McCain and Palin.
