EASTERN COLORADO--Oregon Republican Party chairman Vance Day was ecstatic at Republican presidential nominee John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) announcement that he’s selected Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) to join the presidential ticket.
“She’s sharp; I love a reformer and I love a maverick,” Day said from Minneapolis where he was preparing for the Republican National Convention. “I think it helps McCain a good deal in Oregon. We like someone that doesn’t stand for the status quo. She is a kick-ass candidate.”
Day pointed out that Palin holds traditional Republican values such as being pro-life and supporting the second amendment’s right to bear arms, and she went to Alaska’s statehouse in 2006 and took a hard line on political corruption.
“She put a stop to the $400-million Bridge to Nowhere because she thought it was a waste of taxpayer money,” Day said. “I think she will play very well in Oregon, better than anyone else that was on the short list.”
With an African-American man on the Democratic ticket, and a woman on the Republican ticket, the November election is shaping up to be historic. But Day says that only one ticket promises to make the difference the country needs.
“I think it’s time we had some change in the status quo,” Day said. “But while the Democrats have chosen two Washington, D.C., insiders. My $1000 is on the Republicans.”
Palin will be officially nominated at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., next week. Stay tuned to PolitickerOR.com for continuous coverage of the convention.

Day is a dunce if he thinks
Day is a dunce if he thinks the only governor in the country to be under investigation for abuse of power to carry out personal vendetta is a "kick-ass" candidate. It shows poor judgment on McCain's part for gambling our lives on someone with such ethical issues.
Bridge-to-nowhere
She actually supported that Bridge-to-Nowhere before she opposed it. She wanted to get the funding for it while the republicans had a majority in congress. She opposed it only when it was clear no funding was going to be approved for the ridiculous project.
I agree, she is a kick-ass
I agree, she is a kick-ass candidate. Politics will never be black and white, and no candidate will ever be perfect. Despite some questionable flaws with Gov. Sarah Palin, she's the one who will be able to fill the shoes of Vice President with strength, conviction and diplomacy... It's too bad we don't have more men and women like her. Men and women who, rather than complaining and arguing about our nation's problems actually are trying to DO something about them for those of us who are too damn scared to try.
