ST. PAUL -- After a brief hurricane hiatus, the Republican National Convention will be back in full swing Tuesday.
For the Oregon delegation, that will mean an 11:45 a.m. gathering for the BNSF Railway reception in downtown St. Paul before the evening convention session a few blocks away at the Xcel Center.
Convention organizers had trimmed the schedule Monday as Hurricane Gustav barreled toward the Gulf Coast, but as storm preparation turns to storm cleanup, GOP organizers are returning to their original schedule.
Speakers will likely include President Bush and U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.), both of whom were originally scheduled to speak Monday. Also taking the podium will be former presidential candidate, former U.S. Senator and Law & Order star Fred Thompson.
Convention officials are saying that the theme of the convention will still be focused on helping out those impacted by the hurricane.
