A spokeswoman for Gordon Smith’s campaign said Wednesday that the Republican U.S. senator and his campaign made a wise decision to focus their time campaigning in Oregon instead of mingling with their fellow Republicans at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul this week.
“It's far more valuable for Senator Smith to focus on the campaign this week rather than the parties in St. Paul,” Smith spokeswoman Lindsay Gilbride said.
Gilbride said that Smith has not wasted a minute of his week at home, traversing the state and meeting with officials, trying to build momentum for his campaign’s fall push by establishing his message.
"Senator Smith had been spending the week meeting with local folks from Pendleton, to Portland to Hood River reinforcing his message of independent, results driven leadership, fighting for Oregonians from all corners of the state," Gilbride said.
