Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean will be appearing in Portland Friday for two events.

According to Barack Obama’s Oregon campaign spokeswoman Sahar Wali, Dean will be appearing at two rallies as part of his Register for Change tour. The first event will be at Lewis & Clark College at 1 p.m., where Dean will address students on the importance of registering to vote. The second event will be a volunteer appreciation event at Obama’s campaign headquarters in southeast Portland at 5 p.m.

Wali said that the evening event would be a rally for Obama’s Oregon volunteers, whom she said have been working in every county in the state. That is following Dean’s previous instructions to Oregon’s Democratic political leaders. He told them they needed to reach out to voters in every corner of the state, including traditional Republican areas.

“On the national level, we have a 50-state strategy, and you have a 36-county strategy,” Dean told Oregon’s delegates at the Democratic National Convention. “You have to be in those counties east of the cascades. You don’t have to win them, but you have to do better than you’ve done.”

Wali said that details on both events were here: or.barackobama.com.
