OR-5: Schrader campaign announces new endorsements

Congressional candidate Kurt Schrader (D-Canby) wrapped up more endorsements Wednesday in his bid to replace outgoing Darlene Hooley (D-West Linn).

It’s not often that a candidate is endorsed by business and labor at the same time, but that is what happened when the North Clackamas County Chamber of Commerce and the United Food and Commercial Workers local 555 both announced they would be backing the veterinarian turned state senator.

“Kurt Schrader has been a steadfast supporter of our work, particularly of small businesses in the region,” North Clackamas Chamber of Commerce CEO Wilda Parks said. “Kurt’s expertise on budget and financial management issues will serve us well in the U.S. Congress.”

Accodring to Brad Witt of UFCW local 555, it was Schrader's understanding of what local families are going through that earned him the labor group's support.

“Kurt Schrader has been a strong voice for middle class families in Oregon. He knows the struggles they are facing, and he’ll fight for them in the U.S. Congress,” Witt said.

The Schrader campaign also announced a third endorsement from the Sierra Club. The environmental organization said it would be supporting Schrader because of his energy policy.
