Alley picks up Oregonian endorsement
By Britten Chase, PolitickerOR.com ReporterThe state’s largest paper endorsed Allen Alley (R-Lake Oswego) in the state treasurer race on Friday.
The Oregonian wrote that Alley’s extensive business experience and Wall Street prowess are what the Beaver State is going to need as the country faces increasingly complicated economic times.
“These perilous times demand special expertise in the treasurer's office,” the Oregonian’s editorial board wrote. “Alley probably isn't the most charismatic guy in the race, but he is calm, seasoned, reasonable and deeply qualified. He has the ability to understand and steer the day-to-day operations in the treasurer's office, as well as to serve as a knowledgeable vote on the investment council, which oversees the $75 billion in public employees retirement and other funds.”
Newspapers all over the state, from the Daily Astorian on the coast, to the East Oregonian in Pendleton have thrown their support behind Alley. He’s also been given the nod by Willamette Week, and was the only Republican endorsed by the Portland Mercury, who wrote that the former Pixelworks CEO rose above his party.
“Allen Alley is a Republican—but this time? That's okay,” the Mercury wrote. “Despite the letter next to his name, he's smart and has a venture capitalist and business background that will mean sharp new ideas at the state treasury. Besides, fiscally he breaks with party lines, favoring policies of tighter credit and regulation. It's good to have someone in office who can talk money and sense to both sides of the aisle, and Alley has forged effective partnerships before.”

Seems like we have plenty of Serious People (TM David Broder)with lots of Wall Street prowess staggering around DC and NYC trying to salvage the tattered remnants of their failed Free Market ideology already.
Also interested in ways in which Alley's last outing in the business world could be construed as useful experience.

If it isn't clear enough why Alley is winning all the endorsements... let me make it a little clearer. Allen has run a successful business.. Ben Westlund hasn't. Alley has been one party... Ben goes back and forth to see which one will accept him that day. Allen has a clean record, Westlund has DUI's, Drug Charges, and Sexual Harassment. People (like Gov. Kulongoski) trust Alley's judgment... People don't trust Westlund
Wall Street definition of "Success"
Allen has run a successful business?
Please tell me which one, because Pixelworks tanked after Alley moved all its jobs to China. Is that seriously Alley's definition of success?
