Blumenauer: ‘Oregon put Obama over the top’

Shortly after Oregon's polls closed, CNN projected Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama the next president of the United States, and U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Portland) declared Oregon the state that sealed the deal.

“I think it was Oregon that put Barack Obama over the top!” Blumenauer told the crowd of 7,000 gathered at the Convention Center in Portland. “Oregonians delivered after a exciting primary with Senator Clinton, setting the stage for a remarkable campaign that is going to make a difference top to bottom in Oregon.”

Oregon is still waiting on its results in the statewide races, including the Senate race between U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton) and U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Merkley (D-Portland). Blumenauer seemed optimistic about Democratic chances in the statewide races.

“There is going to be more good news that is going to be coming,” Blumenauer said.
