U.S. Senator-elect Jeff Merkley (D-Portland) named his transition staff on Friday, as he prepares to become Oregon’s junior senator in Washington, D.C.
According to a release from Merkley’s transition team, Jon Isaacs, Merkley’s former campaign manager, will head the effort. In addition, Isaacs will serve as Merkley’s Oregon state director.
Julie Edwards, a member of the campaign communications team, will be in charge of handling media inquiries during the transition process.
"Jon and Julie have been an integral part of my efforts to make Washington work for working Oregonians and I'm pleased they have agreed to continue to be part of my team," Merkley said in a statement. "I am focused on carrying out the job Oregonians elected me to do - getting our nation back on track and being an effective voice for our state in the U.S. Senate. We need to move quickly to jump start the economy, provide affordable health care to all Americans, end the war in Iraq and create a new energy policy that will end our dependence on foreign oil.”
employment with Senator Jeff Merkley
Dear Transition Staff, I am interested in applying for a position with our new Senator, Jeff Merkley. I currently reside in Waldport, Oregon. I am 53 years old and I have a B.A. in Human Resources. I have been an unpaid lobbyist in Oregon for many years. I was a young lobbyist in Washington DC years ago. I have been a housebuilder for 21 years. I am semi-retired. I would enjoy serving under Senator Jeff Merkley in any location. I have been a political activist for 30 years. I met Senator Merkley in Yachats, Oregon and was very impressed with him. I voted for Jeff and I was very happy we retired Gordon Smith. I am cognizant of the pressing issues affecting Americans and I know that I would be capable of serving our new Senator with dignity and skill.
I am willing to relocate anywhere Senator Merkley would want me. As a lobbyist, I interact with Congressional staff a great deal and I am aware of the sensitivity and importance of this work. I ask that your staff contact me via e-mail or phone, at your convenience. Thank you!

Kemper/Unitrin Insurance Boycott
Dear Bloggers, I am initiating a nationwide boycott of Kemper/Unitrin Insurance. The Insurance industry is going to face serious reform with the new Obama Administration. Kemper left me twisting in the wind, gutting my Port Orford, OR property coverage without even so much as an inspection! After 35 years of buying insurance, NEVER ONCE FILING A CLAIM, Kemper denied me an opportunity to speak with an insurance underwriter. This heinous, underhanded, shady, unethical business dealings with the American public is over. It is time to fight the insurance corporations. Denying money to Kemper/Unitrin is a first start. Hundreds of complaints build up in the Oregon insurance division in Salem, OR and the state DOES NOTHING! This is wrong. Consumers have rights and we must all band together to take on the insurance industry. Car insurance is too costly for the public. We need some REAL competition! I am 53 years old, a housebuilder for twenty years. I AM Joe Sixpack! I've worked hard all my life. I have a small pension. I am turning to the public for help. I have been a political activist for 30 years.
IT IS TIME WE AMERICAN CONSUMERS FLEX OUR MUSCLES!! Join me in this boycott!
