With a 500 vote lead in the 45th District Democratic State Representative primary, the Michael Dembrow camp is confident and excited at their election night party in Hollywood.
An hour and a half after the ballots were due, Dembrow carried his small lead over Cyreena Boston and Jon Coney in the northeast Portland district.
Dembrow just spoke to his supporters and listed off a long agenda of progressive issues like providing universal health care, making college affordable, ending corporate welfare and stopping global warming and thanked his supporters for their work.
"This is all going to happen thanks to your work," Dembrow said.
Afterward he gave a statement to PolitickerOR.com about his feelings on the election:
"I am feeling great. It has just been such a hard effort. I pulled together a great coalition of supporters: the unions, the teachers, the nurses, the environmentalists; a lot of people who don't really see eye to eye. My challenge, my pleasure, is bringing them together to move a progressive agenda next year and getting other people in the district to mobilize around these issues that we're fighting for: universal health care, ending corporate welfare, getting a quality education, affordable higher education, environment, jobs, these things aren't just going to happen by themselves. They are going to happen when people mobilize to put pressure on their legislators. That's what my campaign is all about and it's looking like I'm actually going to get a chance to try that out."
