Congressman Greg Walden has one of the safest Republican seats in the country. For years Democrats have ignored his record, his seat and primarily his strong ties to the NRCC. That is until the whispers of a potential run for governor began and the Dems discovered Walden sitting on nearly $900,000 in campaign cash.
The sudden boost of anti-Walden press releases by DPO Chair Meredith Wood Smith and Executive Director Trent Lutz comes as no surprise now that Walden has expressed a mere inkling of desire to run for the top seat in Oregon. They see Walden as a legitimate challenger for a seat that has remained in Democratic hands since 1986. They also see few challengers of their own who can rally quickly to catch up to what will likely be over $1 million in the Walden campaign kitty.
With Sen. Kurt Schrader running for Congress and Sen. Betsy Johnson under federal investigation, the Democrats must do all they can to beat up Walden now until they find a candidate with some real fundraising prowess.

It'll be Kitzhaber, and he'll eat Walden alive
Kitz would get over 60% of the vote against Walden, and would rake in money like there's no tomorrow. Count on it.
Walden can't shift his money
Walden can't shift his money from his congressional campaign to his gubernatorial campaign, can he?
Money shift
The money can't be shifted directly, but it demonstrates a healthy database of contributors.
