The name Paul Evans has been working its way around the rumor mill over the past few days as someone who is strongly suspected to file in the race for Darlene Hooley’s seat.
Evans said today that he has not yet made a decision, and plans to take this weekend in order to speak with his family and friends to determine whether or not he will enter the race.
He did note that he is “leaning in that direction. This is an exciting time for America, the issues of the next 20 years will be defined by the decisions of this November.”
“This is a special moment in history, and I am excited about the prospect of running,” he said.
Ultimately, Evans said his decision comes down whether or not his family believes it is the right time to reengage.
“Both parties will put together candidates that reflect their values and virtues, their hopes and aspirations. I want to make sure I can effectively carry that banner,” he said.
“This is a big decision, these are big shoes to fill,” Evans said while speaking of the respect and admiration he has for Rep. Hooley.
“She is a very special lady, and I want to make sure in the rush over what comes next, we ensure that we pause and recognize that she really made a difference during her tenure, she made real a difference in people’s lives,” he continued.
As for reports that he is already assembling a campaign staff, Evans said that he has friends—many of them like Oregon pollster Lisa Grove well known in Oregon politics—to help him think through the process.
