Gray out, Kaufman in for casino initiatives

Sources tell The Inside Edge that investors Bruce Studer and Matthew Rossman, who have been working for years now on pushing Oregonians to permit an off-reservation casino at the now-closed greyhound park in Wood Village, have pushed out long time political consultant Roger Gray and have asked Measure 49 guru Liz Kaufman to lead the charge and Gray is not happy with the new arrangement.

Studer and Rossman have been working for years trying to get the first non-tribally run casino into east Multnomah County. The Oregon Supreme Court approved the proposed ballot measures back in 2006, but both have had difficulty obtaining enough signatures to get on the ballot. The first measure amends the Oregon Constitution to allow one commercial casino and the other permits the casino at the greyhound track and directs that 25 percent of the gambling revenues go to the state.

Perhaps in the coming election cycle Kaufman can do for the casino industry what Carol Butler couldn't accomplish for uninsured Oregon children by amending the state constitution.

Gray's an idiot, and Kaufman

Gray's an idiot, and Kaufman is Oregon's leading initiative strategist (at least on the non-rabid conservative side).

What has Gray accomplished except sitting around smoking cigars? Meanwhile, Kaufman has kicked ass with measure 49....

casino

Casinos focus greatly on security, considering that this is a 30 billion dollar industry. Large amounts of currency move through a casino, tempting people to cheat the system.

Another Casino? Do we really need more places to attract people into losing their money?
