Governor Ted Kulongoski and former Governor Barbara Roberts have announced their endorsement of Greg Macpherson to become Oregon's next Attorney General. Kulongoski and Roberts are the first statewide figures to endorse in the race to succeed Hardy Myers.
"Greg has been a tireless advocate for Oregon families, civil liberties, and environmental protection," said Governor Kulongoski, who served as the state's Attorney General from 1993 to 1997. "That's exactly the kind of Attorney General we need."
As a State Representative, Macpherson worked closely with Governor Kulongoski to pass landmark legislation shutting down meth labs, and protecting farm land and open space.
"We need an Attorney General who knows what matters to Oregonians, and who understands the values and perspectives that are unique to the people of our state," said former Governor Roberts. "Greg is the only candidate who has deep roots in the state, and a proven record of accomplishment for our families."
"These are two of the most important endorsements in Oregon, and I'm honored to have their support," said Macpherson.
Macpherson has vowed to be a "people's advocate" as Attorney General, fighting to "make neighborhoods safer; ensure that consumers are protected from scam artists and unscrupulous companies; defend laws that protect freedom of choice, personal privacy, and the right to die with dignity; and guard Oregon's unique natural treasures."
Macpherson is currently serving his third term as State Representative from Oregon's House District 38, and is Chair of the House Judiciary Committee. He is also a partner at Portland-based law firm Stoel Rives. Macpherson was born in Corvallis, and raised on a dairy farm in rural Linn County. He graduated from Albany Union High School, and earned an A. B. from Harvard University and a J.D. from Georgetown Law School.
