There are spies among the crowds at Democratic campaign stops.
It is a tried and true practice among politicos: send an operative to an opponent’s event and see if anything comes of it.
Jeff Merkley was tailed by a Republican National Senatorial Committee “tracker” back in January. Tim Lussier videotaped a Merkley event and was caught by the campaign.
Although it has seemed like Merkley is the prime focus of the Republicans’ opposition research, his opponent Steve Novick now has his own Republican tracker.
“Tommy” made an appearance at an event in Gold Beach last week, although he was hardly undercover.
He told Mark Cogan of the Curry County Reporter that he had got a job videotaping events from the Republican National Senatorial Committee and had driven down from Washington to catch the action on film.
Apparently at the event, Tommy was surrounded by a gaggle of local Democrats, who pushed both questions and pizza on the “spy.”
Before the Republicans came calling, Tommy had been washing cars.
