The bill, which helped the state’s canine population, also tuned into a political boon for Jeff Merkley when the Oregon Humane Society Legislative Fund endorsed his candidacy for the U.S. Senate.

"Jeff Merkley has been a champion in promoting common-sense policies to protect animals from cruelty and abuse," said Michael Markarian, president of the Humane Society Legislative Fund. "For Oregon voters who want a proven leader on animal welfare issues to represent the Democratic Party in the U.S. Senate race, it is critical that they nominate Jeff Merkley on the primary ballot."

Merkley’s own family includes a dog, Sadie.

Oh, what an adorable update!

Lauren, thank the Merkley campaign for getting you this darling pic. It's much better that the previous photo you had with this news.

Of course, that money shot fit the original story a bit better "Merkley, the choice of humans"

Lucky for me, although I already voted for Novick, I didn't put enough postage on the envelope, so I can change my vote when it returns to sender.

No, wait! This just in from Salem... The USPS is authorized to deliver the penny short ballots and Uncle Bill will pay the postage due. Dang! If Merkley loses by one vote, I'll just kick myself.
