Meredith Smith sounds off on the Democratic primary
By Doug DanielsIn an interview with the Oregonian, Oregon Democratic Party Chair, Meredith Wood Smith, said that she welcomes an extended presidential campaign that may not be resolved until the convention. Some Democrats have expressed concern over this prospect, fearing that a long, bloody campaign between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama could leave the eventual nominee badly damaged, particularly Obama, who is still widely unknown and undefined in the eyes of many voters.
But Smith dismissed this concern and argued that the process could be a healthy one, provided no “below-the-belt shots” are taken.
