Merkley discusses accident

The Oregonian’s Harry Esteve lands a must-read interview with Democratic Senate candidate Jeff Merkley one day after his car accident.

“The most important thing House Speaker Jeff Merkley did before heading off to campaign in Central Oregon wasn't memorizing his speech or practicing his hand shake.

“It was snapping on his seat belt.

“A little more than an hour later, the Toyota Prius he was riding in hit a patch of ice and careened out of control. It hit a frozen wall of snow, flipped over and landed on its hood in the oncoming lane of traffic.”
