Merkley hits New York, DC

House Speaker and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Merkley has been spending a few days this week on the East Coast.

Campaign spokesman Matt Canter says Merkley was meeting with supporters and progressive groups in New York and Washington, D.C.

Today, Merkley met with Senate Democrats Harry Reid, Jeff Bingaman, Ron Wyden, Max Baucus and Charles Schumer to discuss the rural payments issue.

"I appreciate Speaker Merkley taking the opportunity to keep the desperate need to reauthorize county payments squarely on the Majority Leader's radar screen,” Wyden said in a statement. “Jeff certainly understands first-hand the hardship Oregon faces if we don't get this resolved soon."
