Merkley wins key labor endorsement

Oregon AFSCME Council 75 has endorsed Jeff Merkley for U.S. Senate. The council represents 22,000 workers throughout the state, with a membership that includes corrections officers, child care workers, city government employees, 9-1-1 operators and others. Oregon AFSCME is an AFL-CIO affiliated union.

“Oregon AFSCME does great work representing the men and women who provide vital services to Oregonians,”

said Merkley, the House Speaker. “I’m proud to stand up and fight for working families throughout Oregon, and I’m proud to have Oregon AFSCME right there with me.”

Merkley has already won the endorsements of UFCW Local 555 and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union.

He faces attorney Steve Novick in the Democratic primary for the chance to oppose GOP Sen. Gordon Smith.
