Now with the prospect of a Steve Marks candidacy in the race to replace Rep. Darlene Hooley, many are wondering if he'll set up his campaign digs at Salem local pub Magoos, a place where he's been spotted most frequently since leaving the Kitzhaber administration in 2002. Perhaps lobbyist and long time buddy Marla Rae could head up fundraising by collecting donations from the rest of the Salem lobby mafia as they walk through the door.
In other 5th CD speculation, there may be other Democrats that are still considering a run. Apparently, national fundraising organization EMILY's List is still searching for a skirt to throw her heels into the race. And the Oregon AFL-CIO recently stated that former Treasurer and gubernatorial candidate Jim Hill is "rumored to be interested."
Bottom line: the list will be finalized in 12 days.
Mark Welczko, a losing primary challenger to U.S. Rep. David Wu earlier this year, has declared his intention to join the race for Labor Commissioner against incumbent Brad Avakian. >
