The Oregon Senate today passed a bill that reflects the national debate on immigration so prevalent this primary season, a bill which would require more stringent identification in order to obtain a driver’s license.
The bill—an extension of Gov. Ted Kulongoski’s executive order—was passed by a vote of 23-7. The seven members of the opposition included three of the four state senators who are candidates for Secretary of State; Sens. Brad Avakian, Kate Brown, and Vicki Walker. Sen. Rick Metsger was the only Secretary of State candidate who voted in favor of the bill.
In this weeks Winner's & Losers the US Senate candidates top both lists, hope is revived for the GOP by one former House Speaker and Oregon needs a new rural prosecutor. | >
