Johnston dies at 59

Former State Rep. Bryan Johnston died in his sleep Friday night. He was 59. Johnston was elected to the State House in 1994 and served two terms. He lost a State Senate bid to Republican Jackie Winters in 2002. He was slated to become a college president next month in Washington State.

A Tough District

When Bryan Johnston, former Salem House Democrat, was asked about the possibility he will be filing to run for CD-5, he said that he’s “flattered that there are rumors , but I haven’t formed any position on it yet.”

House Dems out; Johnston considering

Sources indicate that House Majority Leader Dave Hunt has cornered all House Dems who live in the 5th CD into one room and confirmed that all are staying in the legislature. That precludes House members Brian Clem, Betty Komp, and Greg Macpherson from getting in. No word if any state senators in the district are considering a bid.  read more »
