Bunn makes a comeback as GOP still fizzles

Nothing terribly exciting occurred at yesterday’s candidate filing extravaganza at the Capitol. The biggest surprise goes to former Congressman Jim Bunn who decided at the last minute to file for a state House seat in Yamhill county. Perhaps he will take a cue from Eliot Spitzer’s recent woes and leave the sex scandals to the Democrats this time around.  read more »

$3K from Spitzer to Wyden in '03

Democratic U.S. Senator Ron Wyden has received $3,000 in contributions from New York Governor Elliot Spitzer, the first-term Democrat who authorities have linked to a prostitution ring.

Wyden received a $1,000 contribution from Spitzer on December 18, 2003 and a $2,000 contribution on September 25, 2003.

Multiple calls to a Wyden spokesman were unreturned.

Wake us when it's over, Eliot Spitzer

New York, where Gov. Eliot Spitzer is involved in a prostitution ring, still has a ways to go before it can catch up to Oregon’s modern day political sex scandals. Robert Packwood served in the United States Senate from 1968 until he was forced to resign in 1995 following allegations that he abused, harassed and sexually assaulted a group of women, including lobbyists and staffers. And Neil Goldschmidt, who served as Governor, U.S. Secretary of Transportation, and Mayor of Portland, met with considerable disgrace after he admitted to having a sexual relationship with a fourteen-year-old babysitter while in his thirties.
