Frank, McDonald vie to take on Girod

Despite the Republican edge in the district, two Democrats are seeking to unseat Republican Sen. Fred Girod—appointed to succeed former Sen. Roger Beyer in January—in State Senate District 9.

Steve Frank, who was elected to the Stayton City Council in 2006, will face off against Dr. Bob McDonald in the May 20th primary, and the campaigns are as different as the candidates.

Now will the national GOP start paying attention to Oregon?

With Darlene Hooley out of the 5th CD race, the Republicans see a clear opportunity to rekindle some party strength in what many view as a solid blue state. Fred Girod could race Democrat Dan Thackaberry next yearThe Albany Democrat-Herald’s Ellen Ast reports today that Democrat Dan Thackaberry will run for the House District 17 seat, pitting himself against his 2006 Republican opponent, Rep. Fred Girod.

“It looks very good for a Democrat in this district,” Thackaberry, a Lebanon livestock farmer, tells the paper.
