Today's convention schedule

The third day of the Democratic National Convention will be called to order at 5:00 PM EST on Wednesday, with a theme of "Securing America's Future."

The day will begin with the nominating process for President, including nominating speeches for U.S. Sens. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.), followed by a roll call vote.

The headline speaker will be vice presidential nominee, U.S. Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.).

Featured speakers will include President Bill Clinton (D), U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), Gov. Bill Richardson (D-N.M.), U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.), U.S. Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and former U.S. Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.).

Turnout not really what we expected

Despite the vast efforts of the Barack Obama campaign to register over 30,000 new voters prior to the recent deadline and despite the alleged "huge projected" voter turnout in the Portland area, Oregon is only six percentage points ahead of where we were four years ago.

Early McCain endorsement could pay off for Smith

Early endorsements in a presidential primary are the key to opening the executive cabinet door. Throwing support behind a candidate before the first caucus is attended or the first primary vote is cast shows the requisite loyalty and trust a president needs in a member of his or her cabinet. In 2004, Congressman Earl Blumenauer’s early and vocal primary support for John Kerry led many to believe he was to be our nation’s next Secretary of Transportation. But, that didn’t quite work out.

Heavyweights come back to Oregon political scene

Sources tell The Inside Edge that former John Kerry Oregon campaign manager Paige Richardson will be coming back from the east coast, despite her continued denials, to manage Sho Dozono’s mayoral campaign.
