Steve Marks thinks there haven’t been any. Kurt Schrader, his opponent for the Democratic nomination in the 5th Congressional District thinks there have been.
The Statesman-Journal has endorsed candidates for Darlene Hooley’s seat in Congress: Kevin Mannix for the Republican nomination and Kurt Schrader in the Democratic primary. “Kevin Mannix vs. Kurt Schrader. That would be a great matchup for the 5th Congressional District, giving voters a choice between two experienced, effective legislators,” the editorial said.
Last week, Steve Marks, who is seeking the Democratic nomination in the 5th Congressional District, released his personal financial information and challenged his chief rival, state Sen. Kurt Schrader to do the same.
Marks—who reported a gross income of $185,356 in 2007, primarily from his government relations and lobbying firm—said he is fully committed to openness and transparency, and believes that voters deserve full disclosure.

Steve Marks’s campaign is calling it the “debate dodge.”
Last week, Marks sent a letter to his opponent in the Democratic primary in the 5th Congressional District, state Senator Kurt Schrader, asking for a series of debates, one in each of the counties in the district.
Schrader’s campaign’s initial response was positive, but the Senator seems to be falling through on the follow-up.
Three of the four candidates looking to replace retiring Congresswoman Darlene Hooley have only been in the race since March, but the short amount of time has served some of them well. read more »
