Democrat Barack Obama is a done deal in Oregon. Independent polls have him ahead of Republican John McCain by 15 to 19 points in the Beaver State and the McCain campaign has packed it up and funneled all resources to the swing states. It appears Democrats are making great strides across the state and are expecting to pick up several seats in the Oregon House and maintain a majority in the Oregon Senate. With the blue tidal wave expected to rush over the entire state, many political junkies are wondering if there is any glimmer of hope for the Oregon GOP this election cycle. Well, here are a few potential upsets they should keep their fingers crossed for.
Monnes Anderson and RobertsAccording to an active Oregon lobbyist there is no real need for concern when it comes to Gresham state Senator Laurie Monnes Anderson's re-election bid. It appears the incumbent has attained a comfortable lead against Republican write-in winner Dave Kim and any hype about the race at this point is to help Majority Leader Richard Devlin raise funds for his caucus PAC, the Senate Democratic Leadership Fund.
Despite having a comfortable majority in the Oregon Senate, Democrats are not taking any chances on losing the Gresham seat currently held by incumbent state Senator Laurie Monnes Anderson. The Democratic caucus PAC controlled by Majority Leader Richard Devlin has donated over $160,000 worth of in-kind contributions to protect Monnes Anderson as she is challeneged by the Repubican write-in primary winner Dave Kim.

Senate Democrats drew a great sigh of relief last March when the filing deadline for legislative candidates came and went and no opposition appeared for any of their vulnerable candidates, particularly Senator Laurie Monnes Anderson of Gresham. However, that sigh may have been somewhat premature when Republican Dave Kim won a GOP write-in nomination in May.
The Oregon Senate Republicans may have little hope of regaining a majority this election cycle, but they decided to put up a fight in the 25th district. GOP nominee Dave Kim just received $15,000 from the Leadership Fund led by Senate Minority Leader Ted Ferrioli in the race against incumbent Senator Laurie Monnes Anderson.
