Fish sworn in as Portland’s newest city commissioner

Democrat Nick Fish was sworn in as Portland’s newest city commissioner this morning.

According to the city of Portland’s website: “The City of Portland's newest commissioner, Nick Fish, was formally sworn into office in the Council Chambers at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10. Fish takes over the portfolio former Commissioner Erik Sten held. He will oversee the Bureau of Housing & Community Development and Portland Fire & Rescue. Fish will also have several liaison responsibilities spanning housing issues, economic development, and regional policy.”

The Oregonian recently reported on whether Portland city council candidate Jim Middaugh had an unfair advantage by learning of Erik Sten’s eventual retirement more than a month prior to Sten’s formal announcement. This story wreaks of political opportunism to taint a candidate who did nothing more than work for the very man he wants to succeed.

Williams to seek City Council seat

Harold Williams looks set to run for the Portland City Council seat that Erik Sten is stepping down from, Williamette Week reports.

“Williams, 31, and his father — North Portland businessman Harold Williams — have deep roots in the city's African-American community.
