The Republican Party of Oregon jabbed at state House Speaker Jeff Merkley’s (D- Portland) record on oil and energy policy, an issue on which the Democrat has tried to take the initiative.

A press release stated: “While Jeff Merkley’s out-of state special interest allies attack Gordon Smith, they – oops – fail to remember the Portland Democrat’s record of voting to increase the cost of gasoline, diesel, and airline fuel as a state legislator while taking campaign cash from oil companies, gas companies, auto-makers, and their lobbyists.”
