For those of you who were concerned State Rep. Greg Macpherson was withering away into the world of Oregon political has-beens after a devastating loss to law professor John Kroger in the Oregon Democratic primary last May, have no fear. Macpherson is back and he's promoting the Oregon Open Primary campaign sponsored largely by former Oregon Secretary of State Phil Keisling.
In an email to supporters Macpherson writes, "I support the open primary because it would broaden voter participation. Nonaffiliated voters would be given a voice in the primary election." Translation: "A larger percentage of non-union affiliated voters could participate in a primary campaign and have a less sabatoging effect on a legislator who led the PERS reform effort. Go Phil!"
Mark Welczko, a losing primary challenger to U.S. Rep. David Wu earlier this year, has declared his intention to join the race for Labor Commissioner against incumbent Brad Avakian. >
