The POLITICKEROR.COM POWER LIST 2008 identifies Oregon’s 50 most politically influential personalities. In developing our list, we eliminated anyone who currently holds elected office, as well as the Judiciary. We also eliminated the living former Governors and United States Senators: we believe that all former statewide officeholders remain highly influential and well respected. This is an Insiders List. We looked at policy makers, party leaders, fundraisers, lobbyists, labor unions, businesses, and associations and have assembled the ultimate list of Oregonians with clout, with an impact on politics and government in the Beaver State.
We selected names based on a fairly unscientific curve: we allocated spaces on this list for a dozen different categories within the Oregon political community -- so #11 on the list of important fundraisers or donors doesn't make the list, but the most influential congressional staffer does. Just remember that our list is purely subjective.
There are no right or wrong answers, and this list is forever changing. Watch for the Power List to be updated frequently. As always, we welcome your comments on this list or anything else on the PolitickerOR.com website.
Mark Welczko, a losing primary challenger to U.S. Rep. David Wu earlier this year, has declared his intention to join the race for Labor Commissioner against incumbent Brad Avakian. >

The omissions of Jefferson
The omissions of Jefferson Smith and Dan Meek are pretty glaring, as is the inclusion of both Meridith AND Trent, instead of one or the other. What has Stacey Dycus accomplished?
Seriously? #39?
Absurd.
Not only am I less influential than a number of people below me on the list (Kevin Looper? Beth Bernard? Vance Day?), I can think of at least 50 people more influential than me that didn't make the list at all.
Huh, interesting list
These lists are always so subjective. This list hits quite a few influential people, but leaves some out too. Kari, you'll always be #1 to so many of us!
Not sure why Stacey Dycus is
Not sure why Stacey Dycus is on the list and Hiram Sachs is not.
Missing the Quiet, though formidable, Fab4 Willamette Crew
Ross Day & Tony Larson for the R's
Kate Richardson & Patrick Egan for the D's
I would agree that there are
I would agree that there are many people that should be added, but every person on this list you could argue should be here.
That is the problem with trying to quantify power, it is subjective, but overall they did a pretty good job.
Chuck Adams at #15?
Chuck Adams at #15? Seriously?
House Dem Staff Leaders
This list should include Jeanne Atkins, Dmitri Palmateer, Debbie Dorris Koreski, Geoff Sugerman, Amelia Porterfield, and Michele Rossolo who collectively lead the Oregon House Democrats' staff team. They are major players with major achievements under their belts -- and many more to come in the future.
He doth protest too much

It does sort of blow your cover as just an average blogger, doesn't it, Kari. Or are you objecting to the insinuation that BlueOregon.com is an extension of the DPO?
Stacy Dycus? Self promotion
Stacy Dycus? Self promotion only
Nahhh...
It does sort of blow your cover as just an average blogger, doesn't it, Kari
No, I never claimed to just be an average blogger. I think I'm a pretty good blogger. I also happen to have a day job as a political consultant (that I did for years before I became a blogger.)
That said, this list is bunk.
I have no love for Kevin Mannix, but let's not pretend for an instant that I'm more influential in Oregon politics than he is.
And that's just one of the many, many folks that belong on this list above me.
