Despite not having any serious challenge this campaign season, state Senator Mark Hass is running a one minute television ad on prime time television asking voters to restore what he calls "uniquely Oregon values." Although he was just recently appointed to the Oregon senate, there is much speculation that we will see him run for governor in 2010. Take a look.
Governor Hass!
Governor Mark Hass does have a nice ring to it.
The Oregon that brought me here in the first place
As a college kid in Seattle, I saw a news report about Gov. Tom McCall speaking out against the hateful speeches of VP Agnew. I thought it took some guts for a Republican to take one of his own to task. I wrote Tom a letter thanking him. I got a nice note back in which he invited me to visit Oregon. I did. I feel in love with it and stayed.
So I can remember a time when a governor asked us to think of the things that bring us here rather than those that divide us. Like Hass, I want that Oregon back.
Steve Duin mentioned in his Oregonlive blog that this video is a refreshing break from political messages of fear and division. Wouldn't it be great for our kids to know some of the pride we felt when we said, I'm from Oregon.
We can only hope that someone of Hass' clarity is willing to put up with the state of politics these days.
Good Governor
I've had first hand experience with Senator Hass and I can confirm everyone's BEST suspicions about him. He is smart, honest, experienced and has the character to bring about a bipartisan vision of our state that could be a model for the nation.
Mark Hass for Governor in 2010!
Political Civility
As we endure the endless mudslinging in the U.S. Senate race, and wonder if either of those candidates is capable of presenting a vision for how we're going to solve the problems we face, Hass's point of view seems particularly refreshing and reassuring. The Bush economy will force Oregon to make some painful choices very soon, as we seem to always be at the mercy of what happens on the national scene. Perhaps Sen. Hass can show us his leadership in the upcoming legislative session. If he can "walk the talk" that way, he won't have to campaign for Governor. The people will demand it of him.
Run, Mark, Run! Having
Run, Mark, Run! Having served in the legislature with Mark for 6 years, I can say with confidence that he's got the integrity and values we need in a governor. Go, Mark!
Mhm
Looks like an Oregonian that has the opportunity to spread a positive, unifying and democratic point to me. I am just glad not to see the same smug muck-racking that has disrupted my favorite episodes of Lost! Thank you Wally Edge for not losing site that political aspirations are paramount to values.
