HRC pleads for cash for Merkley and a filibuster-proof senate

Senate candidate Jeff MerkleySenate candidate Jeff MerkleySpeaker Jeff Merkley's US Senate campaign received some support from New York Senator Hillary Clinton today.  Sending an email out to supporters asking for cash to support the Merkley campaign she opens up by stating, "Sixty is the magic number."  Meaning once Democrats have a sixty-member majority in the senate they will be able to "end GOP obstruction once and for all."

The email coming from HillPAC also asks for monetary support for Democratic candidates Mark Begich running against Alaska incumbent Senator Ted Stevens and Mark Udall running for the open senate seat in Colorado.  All three races are on the top ten list of the most competitive senate races according to PolitickerOR.com's Pindell Report.  Many polls have the Colorado and Oregon races listed as Democratic pick-ups while the Alaska race is a complete toss up.

Merkley was considered a serious underdog in his race against incumbent GOP Senator Gordon Smith back in May after a slight primary victory over liberal activist Steve Novick.  However, the Democratic wave across the country and lots of cash from Merkley's friends in Washington has helped bring his campaign to "the knife's edge" as Clinton stated in her email.
