Defazio ponders his future while others hold their breathe

Eugene Congressman Peter Defazio is in a very good position.  President-Elect Barack Obama may offer him the top job as FAA Administrator.  Speaker Nancy Pelosi may dangle a lucrative chairmanship position in an effort to keep Defazio in Washington, DC.  And his campaign kitty currently holds over $350,000 (which is sure to grow in the coming months), that can be transferred to a state gubernatorial account should Defazio decide to take the plunge and run for Oregon's top elected job in 2010.

Meanwhile, as Defazio ponders his next move, there are a few potential Democratic cadidates waiting on the sidelines to watch for his next move before gearing up for a run.  The number of candidates in the Democratic primary for governor could largely depend on Defazio's final decision.  A few governor hopefuls are clued in to Defazio's close relationship to organized labor and will likely stay out should he jump in.

"Eugene" congressman

Peter DeFazio is actually a resident of Springfield, not Eugene.
