Gordon Smith had another bad week.  Lots of polling data coming out for the contested races across the state.  And we find bailouts are not mutually exclusive to Wall Street (or Republicans).  Here are this week's Winners & Losers.

Winners

Losers

Jeff Merkley

Despite his reputation for being a mediocre candidate recent polling data indicates his shot at taking out Gordon Smith is no longer a long one.

Gordon Smith

Immigration woes, bad news on the polling front and Arnold Schwarzenegger cancel's again on a fundraising gig.

Ben Westlund/Kate Brown

The only two Democratic statewide candidates with any sort of substantive challenge heard good polling news this week from the Portland Tribune and Fox News 12. Westlund leads Allen Alley by 12 and Brown leads Rick Dancer by 8.

Judy Shiprack

The county commissioner wannabe is forced to come clean about her Portland condo real-estate deal gone bad. Much like GWB, she expects the taxpayers to clean up after poor planning.

John McCain

The GOP presidential nominee has tightened up the race in Oregon by coming within four points in a state some consider solid blue.

The American Taxpayer

As banks continue to go under for their outrageous investment strategies, the rest of us are called upon by the Bush Administration to pony up the bailout cash. For most, there's going to be a little more empty space under the tree this Christmas.

Barbara Roberts

Whenever Democrats need a sweet little old lady to address voters on tough issues facing their candidates, the former one-term governor is on the stump.

Oregon Republican Fans of Sarah Palin

The GOP Veep nominee decides to take a pass on the Beaver state when it comes to raising campaign cash.

NorthernStar Natural Gas Inc.

Federal regulators ignored the protests of many Oregonians and approved the liquefied natural gas terminal pipeline that will run through the state.

Ginny Burdick

After the Portland state senator got caught using campaign funds for personal use, she has Tonkon Torp lobbyist Mark Cushing send a letter on her behalf asking for a bailout on her own legal fees.
